Search engine optimization is a curious thing. Many people have many different takes on how to accomplish the task of getting better keyword rankings in the major search engines, especially Google. Here are some tips on how to make your site more search engine friendly.
Write good, unique content. This is perhaps the best suggestion. Good content will not only improve your search engine rankings, but will also improve your site and will bring visitors back if you update it regularly. One way to add a lot of content is to start a blog. Post regularly with original content, and over time you will build a site with a huge amount of content. Google likes that.
Another point to consider when writing your content is your targeted search terms. Keyword stuffing is not recommended, but you do want to use your keywords when writing your content. Write for people, not search engines, but be mindful of the keywords you are targeting, and work them into the body of your text. Using keywords for headings is good, and using your keywords in the first sentence of the body is also good.
Talking about content brings up another point. The search engine spiders that read your site like html and text. They do not particularly like images and flash. Although images and flash may make your site look more interesting, they are not going to help you with your search engine optimization goals. Use more text, and less flash and pictures. Additionally, using more text and less pictures and flash is going to allow your site to load more quickly. Visitors do not like sites that take a long time to load, and many will move on if it does not load immediately. From a usability standpoint, it is also a good idea to keep away from too many things that will take time to load.
Title tags are another item important in search engine optimization. Use your keywords in these title tags, and write them so people will want to visit your site. In addition to helping with your optimization, these title and description tags are going to be seen when users search the internet for your site. A simple yet compelling tag could help your traffic even if your rankings in the search engines do not improve. If you get the same amount of people looking at your search results, but convert a higher percentage to actually click through to your page, that will increase your traffic, and hopefully your bottom line.
